Builder gel is a thick, self-leveling gel used to strengthen natural nails and to extend the nail with tips or forms. At Nail4You, you get builder gel that is both HEMA-free and TPO-free – without compromising on strength or durability.
If you have thin nails that easily break or fray, builder gel applies a protective layer over the nail plate, allowing it to grow out in peace. You can also use the gel for a quick refill of a single nail.
What is builder gel used for?
Builder gel has three main uses:

- Refilling due to growth, or repairing a single broken nail
Because the gel is self-leveling, it spreads itself in an even layer, making it easier to build a correct apex – the small elevation in the middle of the nail that provides strength.
Why HEMA-free and TPO-free matters
HEMA is one of the most common allergens in gel products and a frequent cause of contact allergy with repeated skin contact. TPO is a photoinitiator that has been phased out of cosmetic products in the EU. Our builder gel is free of both, so you can use it regularly on your own nails with a clear conscience.
How to apply builder gel – step by step
- Prep the nail: lightly buff the nail plate, then use cleanser, dehydrator, and primer in that order. Proper prep is the most important factor for durability.
- Apply base coat and cure in a UV/LED lamp.
- Apply builder gel like regular nail polish. Work in a thin to medium layer and keep the product away from skin and cuticles.
- Cure in the lamp according to the manufacturer's instructions before continuing.
- Finish with gel polish and top coat.
If you get it on your skin, the gel can be removed with a wipe-off pad and gel wipe before curing. A good trick: have a thin brush ready, dip it in gel wipe, and clean off any excess along the cuticle.
Clear or pink builder gel?
Clear builder gel is the neutral choice when the gel is to be placed under colored gel polish or to give a completely natural result.
Pink builder gel is ideal for baby boomer nails, French, and other designs with a pink hue, where you want a warm base to build upon.
Durability and removal
With proper prep, builder gel typically lasts 3-4 weeks before the nail has grown out so much that it needs to be filled. The gel must be filed off – never soaked in acetone, as this both dries out the nail plate and does not dissolve the product properly.
